Reducing the Carbon Footprint

From the Big Picture, to the fine detail… Cranberries aims to practice the best in Going Green:

A fusion of green technology & total luxury

Our Beautiful Stone Barns have been renovated using recycled materials and traditional building methods and we ensure we keep our first class environmental credentials, by using green energy throughout.

 Green Utilities

All Heating & hot water are delivered with State of the art Eco-Friendly ground /air source heat pumps whilst the electricity is supplied via a solar energy plan.

The farm’s own spring provides the water supply to ALL the taps and even flushes the loo’s.

 Green Cleaning:

All cottages are provided with eco-friendly cleaning materials and our local laundry service only uses eco -friendly cleaning products too and our ethos of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle refers to all the waste generated.

 Green Transport:

Guests are encouraged to arrive at Cranberries by public transport, for which 5% discount on the cost of your stay will be given.

Our latest additional to our green credentials is our Electric Car Charger Station: it supplies electric energy for the recharging of electric vehicles & plug-in hybrid electric-gasoline vehicles.

 Green Environment

We have a large area of woodland, which is left untouched to promote the flourishing of birds, wild animals and insects and bird boxes are situated around all the cottages; flowers, shrubs and herbs are planted to encourage the natural ecocycle of growth and wildlife survival.

Fly fishing along our 1-mile stretch of the Axe River is permitted free of charge, however it is on a “put back” basis.

As we are located in an area of Outstanding Beauty, beside the Jurassic Coastline, we recognise the importance of maintaining tradition, but also the importance of using modern technologies to provide this area with sustainability for future generations.

Being so close to unspoilt, beautiful beaches, we like to help to keep them that way: We offer a regular community beach clean twinned with a fun day out for our guests

From the Big Picture, to the fine detail… Cranberries aims to practice the best in Going Green:

Our efforts haven’t gone unnoticed…the Green Tourism Business Scheme Gold Award Tourismhave awarded us Gold.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme rewards companies in the travel and tourism sector for helping to adopt, adapt and advertise environmentally-friendly policies and practices.

Any business opting to join Green Tourism is assessed for the way it complies with criteria covering a range of issues including energy and water efficiency, waste management and biodiversity. Those which meet the required standard receive a bronze, silver or gold award based on their level of achievement.

This prestigious, hard-earned award, follows a constant implementation of eco-actions, introduced by Cranberries, and is a testament to the hard work that every member of the team does here, and to the high esteem with which environmental issues are regarded.

With a great attitude and strong commitment to running all aspects of the business in a sustainable manner, and the cutting edge technology on site, Cranberries  Hideaway offers guests a truly green choice.

So, with Cranberries fully equipped with everything from bicycles to wellies, eco toiletries and hampers of local produce, every effort is made to encourage a smaller carbon foot print from us all.

Cranberries Environmental Policy

Cranberries is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, beside the Jurassic coastline.

As owners, we recognise the importance of maintaining tradition, but also the importance of using modern technologies to provide this area with sustainability for future generations.

Each individual cottage has been renovated using recycled materials and traditional building methods.  Modern, eco-friendly ground/air source heat pumps and solar energy have been provided.

We have therefore undertaken to implement the following measures:

  • Reduce, reuse and recycle the waste generated by us.
  • Supply all cottages with eco-friendly cleaning materials.
  • Provide our own spring water to each cottage:  supplying spring water to all taps and toilets.
  • All energy used is provided by either ground source, air source or solar energy.  Low energy light bulbs are fitted.
  • Guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport, for which 5% discount will be given. Bicycles, pedal & electric, are also provided on-site.
  • Provide an Electric Car Charger Station: supplying electric energy for the recharging of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric-gasoline vehicles.
  • Bird boxes are situated around all the cottages. Flowers, shrubs and herbs are planted to encourage wildlife.
  • We have a large area of woodland, which is left untouched to promote the flourishing of birds, wild animals and insects.
  • Fly fishing along our 1-mile stretch of the Axe River is permitted free of charge, however it is on a “put back” basis.
  • We make every effort to ensure waste products and materials are recycled in a responsible way.
  • We ensure our operations comply with current legislations and continue to improve environmental issues.
  • We ask our guests to minimise waste consumption i.e. turning taps off when brushing teeth, having showers instead of baths.
  • We encourage guests to shop at our local farm shop where organic and local produce can be purchased.
